Meet Nirmeen Hasan. Nirmeen started her career in higher education 14 years ago as an Enrollment Advisor for online programs. She’s a dreamer, but she’s also a doer. As EVP of Online operations, she is integral to Keypath’s Academic Program Management (APM) solution.
What excites you about working for Keypath Education?
Being part of an organization which thrives on creativity is very exciting. The energy and spirit in this environment is addictive and inspirational. In the short period of time that I have been here I have enjoyed working with everyone, and I am reminded every day of the fact that “there is always a solution!”
Where do you see your specialty going in the next 5 years?
Higher education institutions are faced with many challenges today, and growing enrollments or even sustaining existing enrollments top those challenges. Having a robust “smart” marketing and enrollment plan will be critical to achieving, supporting and sustaining growth. Keypath’s capabilities, experience and history as a trusted marketing partner will continue to be a viable solution for many higher education institutions They will also form the foundation for the flexible service models we are creating to truly become the full-service partner for colleges and universities worldwide.
How does online education fit into the university experience?
Online is certainly more prevalent and accepted than it was even five years ago. If anything, online has become the norm for both students and institutions. Incoming students are much more tech-savvy than they used to be, and online education gives students the freedom they demand from some or all of their courses. Also, online allows students to learn from an expanded faculty which includes professional leaders from a diverse set of industries.
Universities, on the other hand, have come to recognize it’s about more than learning preferences and opportunities. Though the number of institutions hasn’t increased, the number of online programs has grown over the last five years. Universities need to go online and expand their geographic reach in order to reach a wider audience. Any long-term strategy must involve online as part of the university experience.
How can you use your skills to change the student experience for the better?
I have been in the online education world since 2001. I started as an Enrollment Advisor in student recruitment. I personally helped hundreds of students enroll in online graduate programs and came to understand the value of a personalized student support approach. That personal attention is absolutely critical to the student experience. At Keypath Education, I am helping build a customized student concierge service entailing technology-backed systems and processes, communication plans and support workflows.
What’s your favorite personal achievement?
I am blessed because I feel I have achieved many great things in life. The most difficult decision I had to make was to move to Canada 14 years ago. I moved to Toronto from Qatar with my family in 2001. We quit our jobs, sold all our belongings and moved to a new country in the hopes of a better future. It was a tough move, considering we had no North American work experience and we had to adjust to drastic weather conditions. We were hopeful and persistent, and within a year of living in Canada we had found jobs we both enjoyed and had a house to call our new home.
